Proverbs

  • I am Me!
'I am Me. In all the world, there is no one else exactly like me. Everything that comes out of me is authentically mine, because I alone chose it...I own everything about me: my body, my feelings, my mouth, my voice, all my actions, whether they be to others or myself. I own my fantasies, my dreams, my hopes, my fears. I own my triumphs and successes, all my failures and mistakes. Because I own all of me, I can become intimately acquainted with me. By doing so, I can love me and be friendly with all my parts. I know there are aspects about myself that I do not know ...but as long as I am friendly and loving to myself, I can courageously and hopefully look for solutions to the puzzles and ways to find out more about me. However I look and sound, whatever I say and do and whatever I think and feel at a given moment in time is authentically me. If later some parts of how I looked, sounded, thought and felt turn out to be unfitting, I can discard that which is unfitting, keep the rest, and invent something new for that which Idiscarded. I can see, hear, feel, think, say and do. I have the tools to survive, to be close to others, to be productive and to make sense and order out of the world of people and things outside of me. I own me, and therefore, I can engineer me. I am me and I am Okay.' --Virginia Satir
  • ~~~Tell IT!~~~
"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you NOT to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It is not just in some of us, it is in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."
  • (~~GOOD CHARACTER~~)
Good character is more to be praised than outstanding talent. Most talents are, to some extent, a gift. Good character, by contrast, is not given to us. We have to build it piece by piece--by thought, choice, courage, and determination.--J. Luther
  • (~~IN A STILL, SMALL VOICE~~)
Give her of the fruit of her hands and let her own works praise her in the gates. ************************
  • (~~MAKE THIS DAY COUNT!~~)
If one advances confidently in the direction of her dreams and endeavors to live the life she has imaGINA'd, she will meet with success unexpected in common hours. (Thoreau)

Pics: A Ton Style, and a whole lot of it. You've never seen anything quite like this before.

Gina is the mastermind behind the fashion-tabulous, poetic blog called, "Awed." Her photo album displays an array of original, creative collections which are sure to provide inspiration and motivation.

She ardently tests the boundaries of crochet with a conglomerate of updated generational styles, from early 1910's-esque high waistline, decorative boutique dresses to 1950's matching secretarial jacket and skirt combinations to modern reconstructed, abstract apparel. Interspliced amongst those are several designs featuring bold, afro-centric patterns. All of her designs showcase an attention to detail.

With a flaire for the unorthodox, Gina's styles are haute, haute, haute!

Do not let passion be a burden

The worst sin -- perhaps the only sin -- passion can commit, is to be joyless. -- Dorothy Leigh Sayers

Freeform_closeup_1   Freeform_1 I'm almost finished with my freeform design...It's taking shape nicely.  I like "painting with thread".

Altho I wanted to go to an art musuem or gallery this past week, too many other distractions popped up.  I did get a feel for art by looking in an art mag...of course, it's not the same but we do what we have to do.

And then I settled within, gazed at that reflection and said "do it!"

Gotta get back to work,

yawn, it is tooooo early but the hook is in the coffee, the hook is in the coffee....save Her, she could drown

Thank you, thank you Sharon for your inspiring email!  I sooooo appreciate it!Event_523995

Girl, it's eeaaaarrrrrly over here--ooooh, but 3 hours earlier over thure for ya....Oh, I found out who, who, who let the hook out?  huh, er who put the hook in the coffee.  Oh.  Me, guilty party.  It kinda got jealous since I wrote an ode to the fiber, a.k.a. yarn (yarnie), something about "slurping fibers"**  let's see if I can find it.  I need to look for my sanity while I'm at it.  Shhhh, you hear 'em:  the guys in white.  Ya know, the ones with the jacket: one size fits Gina.  It ain't my style.  Excuse me,  gotta give 'em the "slip" hint hint.  Don't tell them you saw me.  cause ya didn't; my yarn trail has many paths, so many I can't quite keep up and I laid down the "crumbs"  Here Hansel & Gretel, luminous yarn crumbs here.  Hookie, get your fiber here.  Hey, Mickey, she really did look....

betcha was shook

by what it took

the path led to the brook

sit and rest now

ya won't be forsook

by Da Hook.

Da Crochet Hook

The other day I picked up a reap hook

a reap hook

yep, it's a tool for cutting grass

ya c, it grabbed my attention for I, silly me, thought if I sowed a hook, I'd reap a harvest

ok ok back to the regularly scheduled program

look, shook, took

my crochet hook

out for a walk

she saw this fiber and that one

the shaking started:  crochetitis on the horizon

we had to make a decision:  Oh_okay_oh_yeah_oh

oh?! oh, over thure

you can (make decisions) w/o medication

this is my poem, get out!

look,shook,took

pouring into this open book

by hook or by crook

I will stay

amazingly off the hook

hey, is that a shepherd's crook?!

This is my stage:  what you trying to say? what are you trying to say?

yawn, it's still too early and the hook, out of the coffee, is drying off now

**fiber slipped in

Girl, you don't like coffee

it really really is ok to sit awhile and think

To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to All_the_remains_is_response_1 make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.”

-- Ralph Waldo Emerson

When we don’t know who we are -- or if we are afraid to be who we are -- we betray ourselves.

"Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind."

-- Dr. Seuss (via Elena)

“What you must dare is to be yourself.”

-- Dag Hammarskjold

The picture above is titled "All That Remains Is Response".  It was one of the art pieces I had exhibited in a one-woman show in Norwich, CT. It is made of cotton, rubberbands, pantyhose, leather and crochet over wire.  It is more of a non-wearable wearable, an art piece.  Instead of hanging it on the wall.....well, there ya go.

All That Remains is Response:  be true to yourself.

The Lord GOD has given Me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him who is weary.  He awakens Me morning by morning, He awakens My ear to hear as the learned.  The Lord GOD has opened My ear; and I was not rebellious, nor did I turn away.  I gave My back to those who struck Me, and My cheeks to those who plucked out the beard; I did not hide My face from shame and spitting. For the Lord GOD will help Me; therefore I will not be disgraced; therefore I have set My face like a flint, and I know that I will not be ashamed.  He is near who justifies Me.  Who will contend with Me?  Let us stand together.  Who is My adversary? Let him come near Me.  Surely the Lord GOD will help Me; who is he who will condemn Me?  Indeed they will all grow old like a garment; the moth will eat them up.  Who among you fears the LORD? Who obeys the voice of His Servant?  Who walks in darkness and has no light?  Let him trust in the name of the LORD and rely upon his God.

Isaiah 50: 4 - 10

What then shall we say to these things?  If God is for us, who can be against us?  He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? Who shall lay a charge against God's elect?  It is God who justifies.  Wo is he who condemns?  It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.  Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?  Shall tribulation, or distress, or perseution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?  As it is written:

"For Your sake we are killed all day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter."

Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.  For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 8: 31 - 39

accomplish/do/courageously live

Gr_in_da_mirrorThe best way to accomplish something is to just do it and then find the courage afterward. -- George ChapmanGr_in_da_mirror Its_ok_to_sit_awhile_and_think2neon

What a treat--the movie Yentl (1984) was on Showtime early this morning!  oh joy, I still sang along, cracking voice and all, ha.  What a powerful movie, a favorite of mine

basically: DO & BE YOU!

Lyrics to "Where is it Written?"

"No Matter What Happens"

and my fav:

A PIECE OF SKY

Tell me where

Where is it written

What is it I meant to be?

That I can't dare...

It all began the day I found..

That from my window I could only see

A piece of sky.

I stepped outside and looked around.

I never dreamed it was so wide

Or even half as high.

The time had come

(Papa, can you hear me?)

To try my wings

(Papa, are you near me?)

And even thought it seemed at any moment I could fall,

I felt the most,

(Papa, can you see me?)

Amazing things,

(Can you understand me?)

The things you can't imagine

if you've never flown at all.

Though it's safer to stay on the ground,

Sometimes where danger lies

There the sweetest of pleasures are found.

No matter where I go,

There'll be memories that tug at my sleeve,

But there will also be

More to question, yet more to believe..

Oh tell me where?

Where is the someone who will turn and look at me?

And want to share

My ev'ry sweet-imagined possibility?

The more I live - the more I learn.

The more I learn - the more I realize

The less I know.

Each step I take -

(Papa, I've a voice now!)Each page I turn -

(Papa, I've a choice now!)Each mile I travel only means

The more I have to go.

What's wrong with wanting more?

If you can fly - then soar!

With all there is - why settle for

just a piece of sky?

Papa, I can hear you...

Papa, I can see you...

Papa, I can feel you...

Papa, watch me fly!

....with all there is, why settle for just a piece of sky?  Papa, I can hear you.  Papa, I can feel you.  Papa, watch me fly....

why indeed!

....wrapped in the shawl that learning weaves....

ooooh nice!  so that's what she sang....have you ever not known what was being sung, but you muddled thru anyhow?  from the song "This is One of Those Moments"

being a designer, that above line intrigues me
